footy

Oscar attended a mini Football Camp over half term.

One of Oscar's favourite activities was the 'Fox Game': tucking bibs into the back of their shorts, and then chasing each other trying to pull them out!
Daddy was very proud when Oscar, wearing his Man City shirt, chased down a boy in a Man United shirt, and pulled out his tail.
Mummy was very proud when Oscar tucked in his tail and did a fancy dance wiggling his bottom.

A nail biting penalty shoot-out. Oscar starts of in a sprinting crouch, shoots, skids, scores, then performs a nice celebration. Well done sporty boy - your leg has the POWER!!

Barney also had a lovely time on the side lines, looking like a little dumpling chasing around all the stray footballs whilst muttering "brutter" ("brother") to himself. What a little peach!

This video is an emotional roller coaster in under 20 seconds. Carefree playtime until a girl takes the ball away from Barney Chops!! Look at his poor little lost face at 7 seconds... and just when he's turned around to start to try and get on with his life without the football, it reappears as if from nowhere!! Happy Chops sprint crawls after it with his dead leg skidding along. Pass me the tissues...

gormet breakfast

Breakfast time, and Oscar has wolfed down a bowl of Coco Pops.  He runs to give his brother a hug and says...

"MMMMMMM! That was delicious! And that green pen was delicious for YOU, wasn't it Barney?!"

discotheque!

Oscar went to his first school disco this evening.

Dressed as Harry Potter, he arrived on his Nimbus 2001 broomstick with a home-made golden snitch hanging off the front (giving the illusion he was chasing it). Wand out, ready to cast spells on any naughty vampires or skeletons that crossed his path.

Barney had come along in good form too. Curly moustache, pirate hat and the favourite cutlass. The hat and the cutlass lasted about a minute and a half (fortunately long enough for people to notice and adore on him), so for the rest of the time he was just a baby in regular clothes... with a curly moustache drawn on his face.

A Halloween Disco for the infant classes at school basically seems to mean... Thriller music playing, kids in masks and costumes staring at each other looking different than normal, a few kids having a 'dance' (or rather, jumping up and down on the spot), not REALLY understanding what the point is, but enjoying the sight of their teachers wearing pointy witch hats.

Oscar's favourite points of this new experience were

 Buying a green glow stick.

★ Eating 2 sweeties.

Drinking one of those cheap neon red drinks in a sealed cup, and pretending it was blood.

Getting a complimentary little Frankenstein teddy when he left.

Here's a little glance at some of Oscar's cool moves during musical bumps. He seemed to pick a shuffle move, and went with it for the majority of the disco. For example, he did a whole length of the hall just shuffling in one direction. Then ran around the outside of the hall on his own, just because.

i'd watch that show

Oscar lined up some toys. "They're a family, Mummy!" In this family was a giant alien tiger called Wrath, a teeny slinky dog, and teeny Buzz Lightyear, a small Buzz Lightyear, a ninja lego figure, and a turtle rubber.

"Old series"
"New Series"
He explained to me that you could see the ninja's face because he wasn't wearing his mask, and apparently this was because it was "an old series". Haha!
I guess this is something he's learned from all the action cartoons he enjoys watching. Somehow he's created an imaginary, immediate back story consisting of a number of shows. He informed me that in the new series, the lego ninja starts wearing the mask because it's time for new things and he starts to wear new clothes. Clever boy!

Also worth mentioning , Oscar said the bigger Buzz Lightyear was him, and the teeny weeny Buzz was Barney. A hero team even in small plastic form!

We built a spaceship car together so they could go on an adventure. The giant 'Wrath' tiger would meet them there because he didn't fit in.

little hands

When I was a little girl, Mum and Dad taught my big brother and I a secret code for when we referred to the 3 dangerous younger sisters...

"little hands"

This would be used to keep precious things safe, keep small things out of mouths, and keep the walls clean.
"Let's put this painting up here...away from little hands."
"Better put your lego creations away now so little hands don't get them."
"Make sure the lids go back on the pens in case little hands find them."

This is a crucial lesson I've brought with me into motherhood. Barney Chops indeed has little hands too. Dangerous sneaky hands. Fast as lightning hands. Recently he's found a lot of fun in treasure hunting. His tops treasures are:

 mobile phones
★ daddy's wallet/ mummy's leopard print purse
★ tv remote (especially if the batteries fall out)
★ keys

Chris had ALL these top treasures lined up on the side of the armchair one evening. Barney had noticed. He may be ever so young, but Barney has already learned that if you are spotted, a direct route isn't always most successful. He decided on the back route.

Round the room he crawled, and he approached the armchair from the side. We hear squeaking, a little panting, and then a little hand popped over the top of the chair arm and started searching around frantically. A remote was knocked down.

Surprised by his success, Barney (on his toes and unable to see the chair arm) lost his balance. Then we hear a long squeak as his hands slide down the side of the leather, and he slowly returns to the floor. Bless his heart.

Barney, we are on to you and your sneaky 'little hands'. We are watching you. But you're such a love head we don't mind. Sneak away!

rad scooter skillz

Oscar's always trying out new manoeuvres on his scooter. Like sticking one leg out, crouching, etc. Discovery is so exciting when you're 4! This is quite something.

Also, don't miss the last 2 seconds...

thinking outside the box

I had a little giggle to myself earlier, as I came across this little gem in some photos from last year.
Oscar and I collected some empty boxes from the supermarket and went to see Grandad to get creative. Eyes on box. Box on head. Add power ranger laser gun and some extravagant hips and hands. Cool funny pictures!! A lovely memory of my little 3 year old Oscar.

a quick trip on a pirate ship

Oscar is becoming an expert at whipping up an adventure. While I was cooking tea he threw together a 15 minute voyage across the seven seas, PIRATE STYLE!

He constructed a ship out of 7 cushions, 2 blankets and a bag of nappies in the middle of the living room. Barney's wooden activity centre was put in the middle (for navigation and things I expect).

Captain Oscar then began to consider his back story, and what TYPE of pirate he wanted to be. After double checking with me what a 'plank' was, and what it was used for in a pirate context, he decided he wasn't a bad pirate; he'd be a pirate who rescued animals. When I next glanced over from the kitchen the 'ship' had gained a very large dog, a small dog, a monkey, a blue teddy, shrek and a plastic pterodactyl.

Oscar started sailing, and Barney (excited by the pile of everything) crawled onto the back of the 'ship' and had a lie down. The rest of the time Barney mostly spent negotiating the pirate hat in various directions and brandishing the cutlass.

I carried on cooking with a smile on my face as I listened to the journey unfold. I caught snippets of Oscar talking to his crew. "Who's in charge here?!" and "You know what guys? I'm not a real pirate, I'm just a little boy doing pirate things."

After sailing all day Oscar tucked everyone up for bed, so Barney popped off to the kitchen to look at the washing machine.

Then we had tea time :) . The End.
